Otelmongo at risk of removal

This issue is to inform the maintainers of the mongo library (and users reading issues) that the otelmongo library, which allows instrumenting mongodb with OpenTelemetry lacks a code owner, and has therefore been deprecated and will be removed in a couple months.

See Deprecate and remove go.opentelemetry.io/contrib/instrumentation/go.mongodb.org/mongo-driver/mongo/otelmongo · Issue #5551 · open-telemetry/opentelemetry-go-contrib · GitHub

There are two main ways this removal can be mitigated. Someone could volunteer to be code owner for this package, or the mongo community could take over this package and move it into your repository/organization.

I and the OpenTelemetry Go SIG is available if you have any questions regarding ownership of instrumentation packages.
If you wish to talk to us directly about it, feel free to join our SIG meeting which happens on thursdays.

Hi, appreciate you letting us know - and thank you for the work you’ve done in maintaining the module thus far. Please know that we plan to assume ownership of the module, so if you are using OpenTelemetry in Golang and using the existing autoinstrumentation, there should be no disruption for your use case.

I would be interested to know if there are plans for otelmongo to evolve to support mongo-driver/v2
