Visualizing Mobile Broadband with MongoDB

The FCC Speed Test mobile app is a crowdsource project on mobile network performance, collecting millions of samples per month. In order to make the collected information valuable to consumers, a new approach was needed to present this rich resource in timely and intuitive manner. The Visualizing Mobile Broadband project is a web application that presents mobile network information using maps and interactive metrics. Our small team of developers turned to MongoDB for a solution that is flexible and scalable as volume increases and needs evolve. We present our project from conceptual framework to working prototype and highlight organizational obstacles, geospatial and technical issues encountered along the way.

App Sharding to Autosharding at Sailthru

For years, we sharded much of our infrastructure using in-app sharding logic. We recently moved to autosharding of our 600 million user profiles. Building LinkedIn's Learning Platform with MongoDB

LearnIn is LinkedIn’s internal learning platform packed with a huge variety of resources that will help our employees learn, develop, and grow professionally. In this talk, we will discuss how a small team of web developers built this platform’s API using MongoDB and a full JavaScript stack including node.js. In particular, we will look at schema design and document validation using Mongoose ODM for Node.js, as well as quick document search utilizing MongoDB full-text search and our move to ElasticSearch using the MongoDB oplog.

Moving Hudl from MS SQL to MongoDB: A Two Year Journey

Hudl serves almost 1 billion video views per month to athletes and coaches. We ran a large single SQL mirroring setup but quickly hit the limits of our AWS instances at the time. Over the past two years we have moved the majority of our data into a sharded MongoDB cluster and have seen developer productivity increase, reduced latency for our end users, and better server fault resiliency. Replication Internals: The Life of a Write

Come to this session to learn about the internal workings of MongoDB replication and replica sets. We will track the lifetime of a replicated write: from the moment it enters the primary server, as it travels out to secondary servers, and finally as it is reflected back to the primary (in case the write has an associated write concern). In particular, we will discuss the techniques MongoDB uses to ensure correct write ordering on secondaries while still keeping up with the primary and servicing client reads as well. This is an advanced session intended for those who possess a basic understanding of MongoDB and general programming concepts.
